Abstract

For libraries, a chronic lack of space is nothing new and is an international phenomenon. It has become a truism that the rise of digital information, electronic documents and the “media revolution” has not (at least for the time being) solved the space deficit. Precisely the opposite. Space for the simultaneous use of printed and digital/multimedia information is necessary. This article considers how this complex problem is managed within the context of German libraries.
