Dr Francis D. (Doug) Tuggle, Professor in the Argyros School of Business and Economics, has been named editor of a prestigious international and interdisciplinary scholarly journal: The Learning Organization: The International Journal of Critical Studies in Organizational Learning. The journal is published by Emerald Group Publishing in the UK. Emerald Group publishes over 280 journals and hundreds of books, and works closely with the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business, the leading association accrediting business schools. Emerald has teams in locations around the world including the USA, Australia, the UK, Brazil, China, Mexico, South Africa and South East Asia.
Currently publishing six issues per year, the journal examines international evidence of organizational performance through an interdisciplinary lens. Its aims are to promote deeper understanding of organizational success in a dynamic global economy through theoretically informed critical studies of organizational learning, necessarily touching upon issues such as organizational and national culture, employee engagement, power, ideology, structure, leadership, change management, effectiveness, complexity, technology, networks, and other factors that affect enduringly successful organizations. Case studies of organizational success and failure are welcome, as are critical analyses of organizational learning.
Reaching thousands, the journal has four regional editors in the US, Europe, South America, and Asia, and some three dozen others on its editorial advisory board. The aims of the journal are broadly consistent with the ethos of Chapman University, which is to produce inquiring, ethical thinkers who are productive global citizens.
Dr Tuggle’s research methodology has spanned laboratory experiments, computer simulation models, case studies, and mathematical models. He was a triple major at MIT (business, mathematics, and computer science) and took an interdisciplinary Ph. D. under the late Herbert Simon (Nobel laureate in Economics, 1978) at Carnegie Mellon University, so he seems fated for the editor role of this unique journal. This is his 10th year at Chapman University, and he previously was at American University, Rice University, and the University of Kansas. He sits on boards of directors and consults with for profit and not for profit firms.
