| Extract: | The conceptual simplifications which finally resolve the film’s conflicts have neither vanished from reality nor been subject to sustained critique. Assumptions of an identifiable enemy, capable of being hunted down and exterminated by a combination of police, military and intelligence agencies persist, while the film’s vision of a triumphant multicultural resistance to anti-Arabic, anti-Islamic state racism seems as much a fantasy in the post 9/11 U.S. as it does in post-Tampa Australia. |
