How to spend wisely on coach training

Article Type: Abstracts From: Development and Learning in Organizations, Volume 24, Issue 3

Wynn L.Training Journal (UK), November 2009, Start page: 62, No of pages: 3

Sets out rules that will ensure that organizations get a return on their investment when they train managers to be coaches. Discusses why coaching training programmes fail to deliver any real value to the organization, arguing that many lack any strategic purpose; their contribution to the organization is not measured and that, consequently, the training itself is underfunded; the application of any learning to the organization is not supported; and that managers fail to reflect on their management style and apply their learning to it. Outlines how these problems can be rectified, arguing that coaching skills training needs to be well-planned, strategically aligned and well-promoted if it is to be effective.Article type: ViewpointISSN: 1465-6523Reference: 39AC329
