Purpose offers a change programme that aims to help management develop a strategic response to the issue of climate change. Design/methodology/approach reports on the collaborative venture formed between a County Council and a regional climate change partnership. Draws attention to how climate change is challenging organizational leaders; highlights how corporations have been slow to recognize the need for strategic action to tackle the issue and identifies the barriers preventing them from fully implementing a climate change agenda. Presents the “Four As model of change” (awareness, agency, association, action and reflection) that was extended by a fifth “A” “Architecture for Change” (learning at one level, informs action elsewhere). Outlines the organizational implications of adopting the model and describes the framework pathways for transformation - that emerged from the collaborative venture. Puts forward descriptions of managerial practice at each of the six levels within each pathway; identifies the barriers that prevent management moving through the pathway; spells out the initial learning from its use. Originality/value provides a pathways framework for climate leaders.ISSN: 1350-6269Reference: 37AC137
