Developing a process for assessment of the emotional and behavioural needs of “looked after” children: the Five Rivers model

Five Rivers Child Care, a social enterprise, provides integrated therapeutic care (Education, Assessment and Therapy, Residential and Foster Care) for children and young people. The majority of the placements in Five Rivers Child Care are medium to long term, although it does also provide a dedicated emergency service. This process forms part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project (part financed by the Technology Strategy Board and by the business, supervised by an academic institution, Bournemouth University). The company provides approximately 400 placements in residential and foster homes throughout England and a further 100 placements in Ireland. For more details of the project see Beckett et al.
