An ambitious programme of school twinning over the Internet is among the priorities which Britain and Spain would like to see for the EU. British prime minister Tony Blair and his Spanish counterpart Jose Maria Anzar said, following a summit in Madrid, that such a programme could help to develop children's foreign-language skills and improve their knowledge and understanding of other cultures. The two men also favoured a new EU programme to develop the skills of the unemployed, and measures to ensure that schools provide all pupils with basic information-technology skills.
