MEPs back Year of Education through Sport
Euro-MPs have backed a move to make 2004 the European Year of Education through Sport. All the speakers in a brief debate urged that the campaign should focus on tangible action, rather than studies and reports. The European Commission will provide e11.5 million towards the project. But Viviane Reding, the European Commissioner responsible for education and training, said a number of big European sport federations had already asked to take part and they would contribute much towards organizing the campaign.
