Abstract

Considerable extension is proceeding at the Kokkola Works of Outokumpu Oy, in Finland. The most important item is the construction of a cobalt plant, of which production capacity will be about 1.2 million kg. cobalt/year, of which practically all will be exported, and will be almost 10% of the world cobalt production. The raw material is the pyrite concentrate of Outokumpu Mine and the calcines obtained of it, which to date have been exported to West Germany for the recovery of cobalt.
