Conference
The 10th Conference SHELL STRUCTURES: THEORY and APPLICATIONS

Location: Gdansk, Poland
Dates: 16th Oct 2013 to 18th Oct 2013

Conferences “Shell Structures, Theory and Applications” have been organized in Poland since 1974. The aim of these meetings is to bring together scientists, designers, engineers and other specialists of shell structures in order to discuss important results and new ideas in this broad field of activity. Starting from 1998 the SSTA Conferences became the truly international events. Each of the last four SSTA was attended by well over one hundred shell specialists from over 20 countries. The full text papers presented at the 8th and 9th conferences were published in the books "Shell Structures. Theory and Applications" by Taylor & Francis, London and were referred to in the database Web of Knowledge easy accessible through Internet.

We do believe that there is still a need for a specialized international meeting in the field of shell structures, and the Jubilee 10th SSTA is just the adequate forum for it. We expect that also this Conference will bring together many specialists of shell structures from international scientific and engineering community.

Please join us at the Conference, meet specialists in the field, and enjoy touristic attractions and cultural heretige of the historic hanseatic city of Gdańsk.

Internal Combustion Engines: Performance, Fuel Economy and Emissions

Location: 1 Birdcage Walk, Westminster, London, SW1H 9JJ, UK
Dates: 27th Nov 2013 to 28th Nov 2013

These are exciting times to be working in the IC engine field. With the move towards downsizing, advances in FIE and alternative fuels, new engine architectures and the introduction of Euro 6 in 2014, there are plenty of challenges. The aim remains to reduce both CO2 emissions and the dependence on oil-derivate fossil fuels whilst meeting the future, more stringent constraints on gaseous and particulate material emissions as set by EU, North American and Japanese regulations. How will technology developments enhance performance and shape the next generation of designs? The internal combustion engine is produced in tens of millions per year as the power unit of choice in transport and other sectors. It continues to meet both requirements and challenges through continual technology advancement and innovation from the latest research.

This popular international conference from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers provides a forum for IC engine experts looking closely at developments for personal transport applications, though many of the drivers of change apply to light and heavy duty, on and off highway, transport and other sectors. Confirmed keynote speakers include Steve Faulkner, Division Manager, Applied Research Europe, Caterpillar; Andrew Fraser, Manager, Gasoline Powertrain Development, Ford Motor Company and Peter Richings, Director Hybrids and Electrification, Jaguar Land Rover.

If you work in this field and think others may be interested in your way of working or the technology being developed, why not share your knowledge and expertise by producing and presenting a paper?

Conference
Advanced Carbon NanoStructures
(ACNS2013)

Location: St Petersburg, Russia
Dates: 1st Jul 2013 to 5th Jul 2013

The International conference "Advanced Carbon Nanostructures 2013" (ACNS2013) continues the series of the joined conferences that started in 2011 when the 10th Biennial International Workshops "Fullerenes and Atomic Clusters" and the 4th International Symposiums "Detonation Nanodiamonds: Technology, Properties and Applications" were unified into single event "Advanced Carbon Nanostructures 2011 (ACN2011)". The scope of the conference includes new carbon nanostructures, members of nanocarbon family - fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, graphene, carbide derived carbon, onions, nanographite and nanodiamonds. ACNS'2013 is the international forum for the exchange of information on the latest progress in carbon nanostructures. The scientific program consists of both oral and poster presentations as well as lectures by invited keynote speakers who survey areas of major interest. General topics include synthesis and technology, physical properties, chemistry of carbon nanostructures as well as their main applications for industry, biology and medicine.Progress in modern nanotechnologies requires development of new, and refinement of already available methods of diagnostics. This is why we also arrange the conference school for young scientists "Diagnostics of Carbon Nanostructures" which will be held in the course of the ACNS'2013 on July 3, 2013. Based on experience of the previous conference, the estimated number of the participants of the ACN'2013 will exceed 300, and will include both of those from Russia as well as Europe, Japan, USA, and other countries. In spite of the short history, the conference has its own traditions. The science on nanocarbons is radically interdisciplinary in nature. Physics, chemistry, mathematics, astronomy, and medicine represent an incomplete list of fields dealing with the research of fullerenes, nanotubes, nanodiamonds and graphene. The discussion of nanocarbon applications is one of the traditions of the conference. The Sponsors and the Organizing Committee have been trying to help and promote young participants. The Program committee has arranged a special award for young scientists for best presentation. St Petersburg is both a scientific and a cultural center. It is a beautiful city designed and built by Russian and Western architects. It is often called "the Venice of the North". As usual along with the Scientific Session, a Social Program is planned. The organizers will arrange a sightseeing program to introduce St Petersburg to the guests and accompanying persons. The ACNS'2013 will be held in the period of "white" nights, when the city looks especially beautiful. The Organizers are pleased to welcome members of the world nanocarbon community to St Petersburg.
