Emerald website improvements Issue 5
We have recently developed the Emerald website to improve your overall user experience.
This section provides a quick guide to the new features and functionality and, as we make further improvements, we will update the section accordingly so that you always have the latest information and can get the most from your visit.
New features and functionality
- Social bookmarking: in response to increasing student usage of social networking tools, we have implemented the ability to share links to articles or book chapters via sites such as Facebook or Twitter.
- Document access options: greater clarity on how to buy, rent or access content.
- HTML content pages: information on these pages has been streamlined, making it easier to cite Emerald articles more easily and link to related content.
Improvements in detail
Social Bookmarking
A new "Bookmark & Share" section has been added to all Document Request (abstract), and HTML content pages, which allows sharing of content via social networking services.
The Bookmark & Share section displays links to:
- LinkedIn
- Twitter
- Facebook
- Google Buzz
- Digg
The last button (the "Share This" icon) opens a popup window where users can choose from lots of other social networking sites, and also an "E-mail URL" function.

Document Access Options
In order to clarify the four options available for accessing a document, the Document Request Pages have been improved.

New Content Access Options
Under the heading "Fulltext Options", methods for accessing a document are now displayed in order of importance.
HTML Content Pages
Citations and social networking bookmarks have been added to the HTML content pages.
The layout of the content hierarchy pages generally follow the form:
- The items previously in the "options bar" (View Abstract, PDF Version, Print View, Reprints & Permissions) move into an "Options" box to the right of the content.
- The "Add to Marked List" functionality moves from the top right, below the issue paging links, into a section in the "Options" box to the right of the content.
- "References" and "Cited By" are now available in the Options box.
- The DOI link, and a full citation appear beneath the article title. The citation title is displayed on a seperate line to make it easy to cut/paste the citation without getting the "Article citation:" text.
- A new Bookmark and Share section for the social bookmarks was created between the Marked Lists and Reprints.
