Abstract

It is essential for a firm to create and capture value to justify its existence in competitive settings. In this context, first mover advantages in an emerging economy constitute an important topic of research in management because the order of entry of a firm to a new market influences its ability to create and capture value. Performances of the firms in an emerging economy like India suggest that a first moving firm enjoys several differential advantages. However there are certain market imperatives that the firm must address to derive sustainable competitive advantage.
