Abstract

This article is a description and an analysis of a capital investment project from the perspective of manufacturing strategy. The case will illustrate the development of a manufacturing strategy when an idea of investing in a new production concept is the starting‐point, and application of new technology is important. Attention to market criteria and the need for changes in the infrastructure can be developed during the investment process. This development, however, presupposes that the actors can perceive the implications and demands on other parts of the firm as well as on the market.
