Volvo the winner on issues of car safety: Accepting the unacceptable

Abstract

It is 75 years since women in the United Kingdom became enfranchised, and this anniversary has prompted much comment and debate about feminist issues in the British media. Anyone who suggested now that women should not have the vote would be ridiculed. Nevertheless, such a view would have been considered quite acceptable among many educated people in Edwardian Britain.
