Abstract

A survey recently carried out into security problems reported that all the senior management questioned were concerned at the scale of losses suffered by companies. Disloyalty can range from the private use of office equipment to the disclosure of vital business information to the competitors. Faced with this threat, the author argues against the use of private detectives with all the problems of legal action, and illustrates the benefits of practical and cost‐effective surveillance equipment. In particular, uses of a development known as the Recording Briefcase are described. Specialist companies, such as that founded by the author, now exist to supply a professional service to customers worldwide with guaranteed confidentiality and anonymity.
