Abstract

Purpose

To report on the 25th Annual Conference of Cataloguing, Classification and Indexing of the Nigerian Library Association, held in October 2005.

Design/methodology/approach

A summary of the main points of the conference.

Findings

The increased role of technology in the cataloguing, classification and indexing functions of technical services remains challenging in many libraries. Special and ongoing staff training is necessary to promote new procedures and efficiencies. Computer support, uninterrupted power supplies, and other issues complicate the progress and force libraries to create new solutions to these and other dilemmas.

Originality/value

This report is of interest to library and information management professionals and those interested in developments in library work in Africa.
