In an information age dominated by the computer and Internet, online learning is critical to developing knowledge workers. Furthermore, to develop a learning organization, such skills will keep a business on the cutting edge. Saul Carliner not only gives the reader an introduction to “online learning”, but delineates the term from related approaches, such as distance education, e‐learning, Web‐based learning, and computer‐based training. Human resource professionals and educators will find this volume helpful for designing a learning strategy and program centered around the computer and associated communication technologies. The author highlights three aspects of such learning – goals, technology, and project issues. His last chapter not only examines the concepts and issues involved, but shares actual case studies for online learning. Finally, among the resources shared, he ends with a 12‐page glossary of new and important terms. For those concerned about developing human potential, it is an important contribution to better understanding of the emerging role of online learning.
