Abstract

Explains how the system of labour restructuring known as “annual hours” helped Tesco′s new composite distribution. It solved the problem of matching the manning levels to the rapidly changing hourly and day‐of‐the‐week fluctuations in work load. The result was outstanding performance and consistently high productivity.
