Abstract

Two Green element approximation schemes are used for the solution of transient non‐linear evolution problems. While the first scheme adopts linear interpolation polynomial to approximate the functional variables, the second achieves the same by employing a higher‐order interpolation function known as cubic Hermitian polynomials. Results obtained from both schemes are compared with those found in the literature. It is found that the second scheme, in spite of its more complex formulation, could only account for marginal gains in accuracy for the problems tested.
