Abstract

Reports the findings of a small survey of senior managers carried out by Newcastle Business School in early 1996. The aim of the survey was to help to indicate any needs of senior managers that might be met by business schools. The results indicate that many senior managers: are currently engaged in bringing about radical changes, including changes to company missions, changing company culture and significant reorganizations; and gain their most valuable learning and development, relevant to their job, from activities within their own team, and from managing new projects and networking with customers. Only one in three senior managers spent more than five days in the last year on off‐the‐job training and development, and one in three had spent no time at all.
