Abstract

They cost between $1,500 and $15,000 a day, there are currently 10,000 of them working for businesses around the globe, and by 2007 it is estimated that their number will exceed 50,000. Who are they? Executive coaches. Over the past 15 years, the role of the executive coach has become more and more prominent in organizations the world over. In fact, in a recent survey of 170 HR professionals, Hayes Group discovered that more than half the respondents had set up some sort of coaching program in the past 18 months. And what is more, 70 percent believed that coaching is actually more effective than training courses as a means of changing behavior and improving the performance of senior executives and high‐flyers.
