Abstract

This year, the annual UK Public Health Association forum Health Inequalities ‐ Turning the tide?, was held in Brighton, including a debate on national priorities for improving alcohol services. A counsellor from the local community service offered her experience (Powell, 2008) in engagement with diverse people, with diverse needs, around drinking. Her web‐based alcohol materials may be a useful model for public health professionals seeking to engage hard‐to‐reach populations (Caan, 2009), who will only accept professional help on their own terms.
