Acknowledgments

I acknowledge that my concepts are inspired by varied lived experiences. The natural, built, and human landscapes that have shaped my discourse — in chronological order are artistic expression; spatial analysis; Pennsylvania German (Dutch) sensibilities; geographies of the Oley Valley in Berks County, Pennsylvania; cityscapes of Philadelphia; tensions in-between; the Harriet Sartain Travel Fellowship from Moore College of Art & Design to observe and experience modern architecture and urban planning and development in the cities of Houston, Dallas, San Francisco, and Chicago; my adult and teen aged daughters Sian, Joi, Kallan, and Liya; ignoring pedestrian American parenting; slipping from middle class into poverty; losing a home; independently reaching for once familiar socioeconomic stability; tolerating countless injustices; advocating for justice, beige cubicles, Alvernia University in Reading, Pennsylvania and the Franciscan intellectual tradition as a non-Catholic; concepts of place and space, hex signs; and the barn and skyscraper as leadership–followership metaphor. I am grateful to the International Leadership Association and the editors of this book for allowing such a way of thinking to contribute toward this inclusionary text. The terms followership justice and leadership reach are mine as the result of my combined lived experience and encouragement of my daughters.
