Acknowledgments

Writing a book is something that has been on my bucket list of things to do for a long time, and I am so pleased to have been able to do so. I would first like to thank Fiona Allison of Emerald Publishing for presenting me with this opportunity. Despite the number of accomplishments individuals may achieve, imposter syndrome is real. She reminded me that she contacted me for a reason, and so I thank you.

To my colleagues Drs Kemi Anazodo, Jakari Griffith, and Catrina Johnson who have decided to also pursue this area of study, even though it is often overlooked and devalued in our discipline, keep up the great work and inspiration. We have collaborated and published together, and you have provided me with the support and flexibility I needed during this extremely challenging time. I sincerely appreciate you.

I am truly grateful for my village. From the additional support I have received from my BGM support system: Anastasia Bailey, J'Aime Jennings, Kisha Lashley, Tiffany Maldonado, Carliss Miller, Angela Randolph, and Regina Taylor, to my MDSA colleagues for life Darryl Rice and Phil Thompson, I appreciate you all. Thank you to Eddy Ng, Dianna Stone, and Anne Marie Ryan, who all took a chance on me.

To my extended PhD Project and Management Faculty of Color Association colleagues, you are a constant reminder that something amazing may be waiting for you, if you are open to it.

Trish Nabors I appreciate you. I also thank all of the individuals, organizations, and facilities I have collaborated with or visited over the years. Thank you for your willingness to allow me entry into your space.

Jessica and Ashley, I appreciate that you both did this first and were able to provide me with the information I needed right when I needed it.

Thank you to Letta, you are amazing at what you do, so keep doing it.

I would sincerely like to thank my husband, Eugene Young, Jr., for supporting me in this endeavor. We will have to start that support group one day. Thank you mom. I always knew that you loved to write, so thank you for passing this love along to me. Thank you dad for opening my eyes to so many things I may have otherwise never noticed. Thank you Madison and Mason, mommy appreciates your hugs and patience. My dear brother Bryan and sister Akilah, I appreciate your continuing drive to push me forward. My sister Erin, you always asked about my progress, and I really appreciate that. And my mother-in-law Diane, who was always willing to take some of the childcare responsibilities off my plate.

I also extend a huge thank you to all of my friends and family who may or may not have even known I was working on this book. You serve as a constant reminder that we all have important things going on in our lives, but that a win for one of us is a win for us all.

I do believe I am my ancestors' wildest dreams. To my grandparents – Joseph Edwards, Carrie Lee Edwards, Burnes Jones, and Rivannah Jones, I love you all. I hope I made you proud.
