Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to review the latest management developments across the globe and pinpoint practical implications from cutting-edge research and case studies.

Design/methodology/approach

This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context.

Findings

Effectiveness of online learning requires employees to engage with the digital platforms used. Companies can increase work engagement (WE) among learners by developing a platform that is regarded as easy to use and offers online content that employees believe will enhance their future job performance. Task-based learning that includes game elements and other challenging activities also help create an online environment conducive to interaction, knowledge sharing and quality feedback. Personality traits can also influence learner WE, while careful use of financial incentives has scope to do likewise.

Originality/value

The briefing saves busy executives and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy-to-digest format.
