IBM property and the it factor – a user experience
Abstract
Describes IBM′s experiences of its property portfolio in the 1980s. Explains what the company is doing as a result of lessons learnt. Gives background to IBM. Emphasises that the office layout and design must change with changing IT technology. Anticipates how an intelligent environment control system will save 20% in operating costs. Argues that, whereas the total replacement of the office by home working is a myth, there will be a significant change in work patterns. Accuses the property industry of being ′Luddite′ in not using the author′s company.
