The purpose of this paper is to enable readers of International Journal of Health Governance (IJHG) to gain a quick overview of the key concepts explored in this issue of the journal.

Design/methodology/approach

The review is prepared by the review editor to highlight key points within each paper.

Findings

The paper enables readers to scan content and select articles of most interest or relevance to their needs.

Originality/value

–IJHG is the only Emerald health journal which provides a review section of this kind.
