OECD report – "Green Growth in Cities"

Article Type: News From: International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education, Volume 15, Issue 1

This report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) synthesises the findings from six case studies of urban green growth policies. Four of the case studies are at a city level and include Paris, Chicago, Stockholm, and Kitakyushu, whilst two are at the national level of China and Korea. The document outlines a definition of urban green growth and a framework for analysing how it might play out in different types of cities. The importance of urban policies for achieving national environmental policy goals is stressed, and the increased efficiency of policy intervention at the urban level is explored. Further, the document identifies urban activities that are most likely to reduce environmental impact and also contribute to the policy priorities of job creation, urban attractiveness, metro-regional supply of green products and services, and increased urban land values.
