Article Type: Editorial From: Journal of Workplace Learning, Volume 27, Issue 8

This is the final Editorial we will be writing for the Journal of Workplace Learning. No, we are not stepping down as Editors; it is a question of improving the service to our authors. More specifically, Emerald aims to improve the throughput time of articles, from submission to publication.

The news is that from Volume 28 on, i.e. from the next issue, articles that pass refereeing will directly get issue and page numbers and published on the Emerald website. When four to five of such articles have gathered on the same Issue number, only then will the complete paper issue be printed. This speeds up the publication process imminently, but makes the collection of thematic issues impossible; instead, it will be “first come first served”. Thus, it also makes a commentary, in the form of Editorial, unnecessary. Guest edited issues will still also in the future get Editorials written by the guest Editors. Our job as Editors will be simpler in the future; no more sorting and selecting the articles to be included in each Issue, but just deciding on which papers to accept for refereeing and which papers to accept for publication.

We will attempt to publish interesting conference calls for Workplace Learning researchers and also keep you informed on changes in Emerald services; but the emphasis of these will also move to the website where such announcements are more timely. Thus, even for paper-based journal aficionados, it would be a good practice to open the Journal of Workplace Learning website http://www.emeraldinsight.com/journal/jwl from time to time to check not only the state of research but also what else is going on.

As we lose this channel to communicate with you, we anyway wish you readers will keep Journal of Workplace Learning on the top of your list of your channels where to publish your research. Together we are doing important work in attempting to understand and enhance learning at workplaces. After all, learning is the basis for improvement of both productivity and well-being at work.
