Fibre Migration in Mechanically (Magnetic) Compacted Spun Yarns

Abstract

This research deals with studies on the migration properties of conventional and mechanically (magnetic) compacted yarns. Carded cotton yarns (1% tracer fibre added) of 20 Ne have been produced for use with various parameters, such as traveler weight, twist level, and off set position in conventional and mechanically (magnetic) compacted methods. The yarns are tested for migration parameters, and packing density. It is found that migration behavior is better for conventional ring yarn in comparison with mechanically compacted yarn due to the presence of a spinning triangle which is formed in conventional ring spinning. However, the packing density is better for compact yarn. Due to the special arrangement in the compact device, it has control over the floating fibres in the drafting zone.
