Abstract

Purpose

Reviews the latest management developments across the globe and pinpoints practical implications from cutting-edge research and case studies.

Design/methodology/approach

This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context.

Findings

It is often said that a firm’s greatest competitor is itself. This is true in a number of ways. For example, there are competing elements from the company board all the way down to the shop floor, where office politics and petty rivalries get in the way of moving the business forward in the most effective way. Another example is how larger organizations have to compete for resources, where one department always seems to miss out the latest tech upgrade whereas another always seems to be favored. In many organizations it seems that they are forever competing with themselves before they can even think about the real competitors outside.

Originality/value

The briefing saves busy executives and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy-to-digest format.
