Swedish car manufacturer Volvo is using Tecoplan Virtual Workshop for geometry assurance during product development.

The Swedish car manufacturer Volvo Car Corporation is using Tecoplan Virtual Workshop to verify design data. Volvo has been successfully using software from Munich-based Tecoplan AG for product development for some time. The use of the innovative ADV (Automatic Design Verification) process provided Volvo with considerable time and cost savings during development of its car models. "Digital Mockup" is becoming more and more "center stage" in the company. Volvo has recently purchased licenses in the amount of DM1.15 million. In the previous year. Volvo invested roughly DM2.3 million in the software to realize productivity and competition advantages across a broad spectrum.

Using Automatic Design Verification, collisions and minimum distances can be calculated completely automatically, even in complex projects. Geometry errors are discovered before they incur expenses. "We are using Tecoplan Virtual Workshop mainly to check for collisions and design correctness, but also to ensure that the individual assemblies can be assembled smoothly", stresses Robert Haller, Manager of Architecture and Geometry at Volvo Car Corporation. ADV will guarantee that all inconsistencies are discovered throughout complete product development process. "From a geometry verification standpoint, it is no longer necessary to build physical prototypes at Volvo", says Hailer.
