The intrinsic integrity of design that is the hallmark of an original inventor marks out the latest Schindler step feeder system which has been launched onto the UK market by Aylesbury Automation (Plate 1).

The system currently being acquired by UK manufacturers for its speed, flexibility and high performance is designed by the German engineer Peter Schindler, who invented the step feeder system and developed the first machine over 25 years ago.

Rival systems were produced following the success of Schindler's revolutionary initial design but, owing to patents, will never be able to incorporate all of the beneficial features.

The third generation Eurosort system designed by Schindler himself offers low energy consumption, compact construction, quiet and gentle feed operation and factory floor adaptability.

"The quality of engineering design becomes clear as soon as you begin to incorporate the step feeder into a Production line", said David Manby, General Manager of the Automation Division of Aylesbury Automation. "The step feeder is robust, fast and quiet and our customers are impressed as soon as they see it in operation."

For example, packing of highly-finished pressed parts with the required level of dexterity and careful handling cannot normally be automated. The advanced Schindler step feeder is proving its quality for manufacturers Presspart Ltd, with products packed for delivery at ten times the former speed, gently and the right way up. The linear orientation tooling was adapted flexibly in line to fit the Presspart packing requirement precisely.

For Caradon MK Ltd, manufacturers of domestic switchgear devices and circuit Protection, the Schindler step feeder system has also brought benefits in speed and smooth handling of components on the production line.
