Corroserts provides effective condenser tube protection

Keywords Corrocoat, Tube inserts

When Scottish Power's Longannet power station recently carried out a condenser retube, the maintenance team chose Corrosert tube nest inserts to provide added protection for the new tubes.

Designed and manufactured by anti-corrosion specialists Corrocoat, Corrosert nylon tube inserts were devised to overcome the problems caused by cavitation and turbulence corrosion, often seen on tube plates and in the first few centimetres of condenser and cooler tube banks.

Located on an estuarine site, Longannet power station utilises tidal river water for cooling purposes, and has experienced corrosion and erosion aggravated by the ingress of foreign bodies such as mussels and grit. To combat this, the station purchased a total of 15,400 Corroserts to complete the repairs to the main condenser tubes.

Manufactured from erosion resistant nylon, Corroserts are said to be suitable for use with either new or eroded tubes. Inert to a wide range of chemicals, the inserts provide excellent shock and abrasion resistance.
