Keywords Compression fittings, Serto

Strength, adaptability and resistance to corrosion are among the benefits claimed of PTFE tube sold by compression fittings manufacturer Serto as a cost-effective alternative to stainless steel.

Plate 3 Serto offers PTFE tube from 3P for use with its range of compression fittings

The tube, manufactured by 3P Ltd, complements Serto's range of fittings from 6mm to 16mm (Plate 3).

"Our PVDF range of compression joints and valves has many applications in the water, chemical, processing and medical industries", says Steve Marsh, general manager of Serto UK, part of the Swiss-owned Gressel group of companies.

"We supply PVDF tube with the fittings, but in many applications PTFE offers a more workable and economic alternative. Its resistance to chlorine is particularly beneficial in the water industry."

Along with Serto s range of fittings, the tube is said to match or sometimes exceed the performance of more expensive stainless steel alternatives where temperature and pressure are within recommended guidelines.

According to Serto the quality, reliability and purity of the products make them suitable for use in dialysis machines and other medical applications. Tolerance of steam cleaning and other rigorous sterilisation methods is also an important factor in hygiene-sensitive areas.

Thin walled PTFE tube is offered by 3P Ltd as part of its comprehensive range of semi-finished PTFE products.
