Stainless steel bar manual

Keywords Machinery, Publication, Steel, Ugine-Savoie

Ugine-Savoie has completed a major study into current metallurgical knowledge of stainless long products for machining. The outcome of this research has been compiled into a detailed technical information manual which has been translated into English and is now available to the UK stainless steel machining industry.

Comprising over 200 pages, the manual sheds light not only on the exact metallurgical composition of the most widely used engineering grades of stainless steel but also provides a complete source of reference for all stainless steel classifications and the current European/international specifications.

The Ugine-Savoie stainless steel information manual includes a wealth of previously unpublished information concerning the latest developments in advanced machining characteristics for stainless steel bars. The work gives extensive details of the properties of stainless grades all the way from Martensitic 4006 up to Super Duplex 4507.

Ugine's main mill and European research centre originated the UGIMA range of improved machining grades over ten years ago. Since that time it has stayed in the vanguard of developments for stainless machining by continuing to "fine-tune" the exact metallurgical composition of UGIMA. Using scanning and transmission electron microscopes, the dispersal and exact chemical composition of all-important inclusions are pinpointed. These encourage good chip formation during machining but retain essential mechanical and corrosion characteristics for the end product.

Copies of the Ugine manual can be obtained from Ugine-Savoie UK Ltd, Erdington Industrial Park, Chester Road, Birmingham, B24 ORB, UK. Contact Michelle or Julie of the Business Development Team on +44(0) 121 377 3402. Cost is £23.50 including VAT.
