Keywords Corrosion, Patents

In GB Patent 2316016 Pall Corporation describe a liquid purification system for separating a corrosive aqueous liquid that is dispersed in a continuous organic liquid. It comprises a housing with at least one coalescing assembly for coalescing the corrosive liquid, and a liquid separating region within the housing. Each coalescing assembly comprises at least one element which includes a packing material, such as a fluorocarbon fibrous structure, having a critical wetting surface tension between the surface tensions of the two liquids. The packing material is chemically inert to the corrosive liquid. Subsequent to coalescing, the two liquids are separated in the region either by gravitational separation, or by using a separating element.
