Free-cutting phosphor bronze for high-speed machining

Keywords Alloys, Columbia metals, Machining

COLPHOS-90® is a wrought phosphor bronze with machinability similar to that of free-cutting brass and significantly higher than that of conventional phosphor bronze.

The alloy is ideal for high speed automatic machining of complex components with low tool wear, close dimensional tolerances and high surface finish. The mechanical properties closely match those specified for wrought 5 per cent phosphor bronze PB 102.

COLPHOS-90 is stocked in round rod and hexagonal section over a very comprehensive size range. It is also stocked in sheet form as a recognised material for engraving and enamelling.

As with all phosphor (tin) bronzes, COLPHOS-90 is corrosion resistant and wear resistant with good thermal and electrical properties. The presence of finely dispersed lead particles imparts self-lubrication properties making the alloy ideal for bearing bushes and similar wear applications.

COLPHOS-90 is used for thrust washers, bushes, self-lubricating gears, pinions, electrical and electronic connectors, mechanical and electrical fasteners and many other components utilising the combination of strength, wear and corrosion resistance.

A detailed technical brochure on COLPHOS-90 is available free on request.
