Metallisation's High Throughput Arcspray System, their Model Arcspray 528E combined with the Energizer Model S1000 has been enhanced to permit the high speed spraying of a range of Engineering Coatings (Plate 2).

Plate 2 Product enhancement by Metallisation

Traditionally used where large surface areas had to be given a protective layer of zinc or aluminium, e.g. Ductile Iron Pipe, LPG Cylinders or bridge structures, the system is now available to the engineering community.

Zinc at up to 103 kgs/hour has been a routine spray rate for a number of years. Now it is reported to be possible to spray a variety of coatings such as chrome steels, stainless steels, iron chrome boron etc, at rates up to 48kgs/hour.

These high rates are said to be at twice the usual application rate resulting in cost savings of up to 35 per cent.

Testing has reportedly shown that the coating qualities produced are not compromised by this high performance and are indistinguishable from those produced at conventional speeds.

Coatings applied to larger diameter shafts, rolls, dryer drums, wire drawing blocks, hydraulic rams etc, are all beneficiaries of this product enhancement.

The Arcspray 528E Pistol is designed for toolpost mounting or automatic operation and can easily be integrated with existing or new production plant. Its electronically controlled electric motor drive ensures an extremely accurate spraying speed is maintained giving precise coating thicknesses and high quality coatings.

The Arcspray process is believed to be the least expensive means of producing a variety of coatings selected for their wear, corrosion or abrasion resistant properties. These are either used to repair/reclaim worn components or to provide enhanced surface properties during manufacture.
