Concrete coating takes on new colour

Futura has formulated its GEOTHANE polyurethane containment lining to have a tan colour instead of traditional black. This new colour is in high demand to improve the visual appearance of waste water containment tanks. This according to John Henningsen, marketing director for the manufacturer.

Responding to increased customer demand for a more pleasing colour, Futura Coatings introduced its popular GEOTHANE, spray-applied, elastomeric polymer coating in a tan colour. Commented Mr Henningsen, "Residents and workers living or working near waste water containment holding tanks commented that the black colour had too much of a dirty appearance."

The tan colouring of the coating allows the concrete walls to "blend" with a natural environment more easily. According to comments supplied to the manufacturer "It seems black coated tanks look too industrial in rural settings."

According to the manufacturer: "GEOTHANE is a modified urethane coating. It is a 100 per cent solids, fast set, two-component elastomer. GEOTHANE forms a tough, highly elastic membrane with excellent water and chemical resistance. It can be used as a coating for concrete, steel/metal or with geotextile."

The manufacturer also pointed out that the tan GEOTHANE can be used to contain waste water, fuels and a wide range of chemicals. It forms a UV resistant, seamless membrane which prevents leaching and controls degradation and erosion.
