Wm Canning has developed a new range of surface finishers that claim corrosion resistance and productivity efficiency.

The Birmingham-based electroplating chemical supply house has announced the launch of a range of zinc alloy plating systems that are said to offer greatly increased corrosion protection compared to conventional zinc coatings (Plate 1).

The new product range is the latest development in the company's ongoing commitment to produce the most efficient and environmentally friendly surface finishes.

Based on Canning's Envirozin non-cyanide zinc plating technology, the new range is capable of producing a variety of surface characteristics including colour, lubricity and elevated temperature resistance.

According to Canning, the distribution characteristics of its latest technology ensures that the coating is evenly distributed across the entire component and that the alloy is distributed throughout the entire coating. These characteristics mean that the corrosion resistance of the plating process is more consistent and reliable.

A second advantage claimed from the use of the latest Envirozin plating technology is increased jig loadings resulting from the improved metal distribution. This means that significant productivity improvements can be achieved.

Wm Canning technical and research director, Dr Ian Buckley, is confident that the benefits of this new technology will be felt throughout the supply chain: "Both manufacturers and end-users will benefit from this new range. The improvements to productivity will deliver considerable cost savings whilst the improved corrosion resistance will increase life expectancy for the final product, thus reducing the rate of replacement. On top of the obvious economic benefits, the new product range utilises our Envirozin technology which creates a more environmentally friendly zinc plating process. This enables manufacturers to protect the environment whilst avoiding international levy duties imposed on toxic substances."
