IP68 junction boxes include EExe rated for hazardous surface areas

Keywords Electrical wires, Remora Electrical

Junction boxes can be supplied by Remora Electrical Ltd of Sheffield that include EExe rated products suitable for increased safety in general industrial electrical installations, but particularly where hazardous surface area conditions exist.

Called the CCG Posifit box they are designed for ease of installation and cabling (Plate 6). The EExe rated products are manufactured in a black self-coloured glass reinforced polyester compound which is stated to be resistant to impact damage, UV degradation, corrosion and high temperatures. They are also anti-static, and can even be buried for long periods.

The boxes have no exposed metal parts and are available as standard in two configurations, with the conventional 4-way X entry ports and a 3-way Y entry. An optional pole mounting bracket is available for the 3-way unit, together with a 4-way box with parallel H entry which can be supplied to order. All cable entry holes are pre-drilled and fitted with screwed blanking plugs. A domed screw closure cap provides even all-around compression of the internal sealing gasket, guaranteeing that the junction boxes are fully dust and waterproof to IP68 when used with sealed cable glands. These caps can also be locked wilh a special key to prevent unauthorised internal access.

Continuous tinned earthing rings are fitted with earthing studs and all products are equipped with DiN rail mounted connector blocks, suitable for in situ or out-of-box wiring.

The 3- and 4-way boxes can be supplied in various sizes to accommodate M20 or M25 × 1.5 threads for cable entry. In both configurations, the M20 × 1.5 thread options can be supplied in two box sizes, ideal where extra internal space is required for cabling. A larger 4-way configuration box can also be supplied for M32 × 1.5 cable entry thread sizes. In all cases good cable pull-out figures are achieved when used with appropriate cable glands.

Options available include transparent polycarbonate screw-on adapt-a-lids available to special order, together with utility versions of the junction boxes suitable for non-hazardous installations. These enjoy the same advanced design and safety features, but are manufactured in a self-coloured grey GRP material. These products are said to be suitable for general industrial engineering applications, as well as for milking parlours and outdoor lighting etc. The utility junction boxes are available in two sizes with M20 or M25 × 1.5 cable entry threads. They can also be supplied with an optional adapt-a-lid in GRP or clear polycarbonate to convert the standard screw cap into a 4-screw fixing.
