Vacu-Blast, part of the USF Surface Preparation Group, has introduced an abrasive blasting cabinet machine, designed specifically for the surface cleaning, preparation, finishing and simple shot peening of long components - shafts and axles, for example - that cannot be accommodated in blast cabinets of standard dimensions.

The new Ventus 180PR has internal dimensions of 1,792mm wide x 796mm deep x 800mm high and features access doors on both sides, enabling the machine to be sited for in-line operation and further extending its versatility (Plate 5). All types of dry blasting and shot peening media can be used in the machine.

The Ventus 180PR is a robustly constructed, pressure-fed production cabinet with a separate free- standing blast media recovery and recycling system which provides the highest integrity separation of reusable media from dust and debris. The system ensures that only good quality media are returned to the blast nozzle - enabling a consistent finish to be achieved throughout the blasting cycle and minimising rejects. It includes a COSHH-compliant reverse-jet dust collector/filter with a quick-release filter cartridge.

The machine has two operating positions, each with full-width, gauze protected 717mm x 387mm viewing windows and full length gauntlets. High internal illumination ensures maximum visibility, blast pressure adjustment is easily accessible and an integral blow-off gun is included to clean components within the enclosure after processing.

The generous 640mm 6 x 740mm access doors have been designed to eliminate dust spillage and are both safety-interlocked. The low-noise blast enclosure features a raised workplate which avoids potential damage to the door seal when loading and unloading the machine. As no pits or platforms are needed for installation, the Ventus 180PR can be located on any level floor.
