Far East export drive

Reflec plc, the Cheshire-based producer of reflective inks and anticorrosion coatings, is to spearhead a major export drive in the Far East.

The company's chief executive, Peter White, is visiting the Far East in July to meet 30 companies, as well as signing up Reflec-approved printers and applicators in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, China and Singapore.

Following a restructuring and refinancing of the company, Reflec is now enlarging its national and international markets. In line with the company's new policy of selling its products to approved applicators, Reflec says it is better able to control the process through quality assurance.

While in Hong Kong Mr White will be visiting Reflec's approved printer and highlighting the company's success with the use of Kelvar, its anticorrosion coating, used extensively in Hong Kong's new international airport. Mr White also will be drumming up business in Singapore, where Kelvar is also said to be used extensively in the country's mass transit railway system. And in Osaka, Japan, Mr White will be promoting reflective inks to the textile industry and to other potential users.

The Kelvar anticorrosion coating is a polar modified liner low-density polyethylene thermoplastic powder coating designed for the long-term protection of mild steel and aluminium against salt spray, impact, ultraviolet light and other corrosive activities. It is said to be now more widely specified by a range of clients including Bechtel, GEC, Rosyth Dockyard and ABB.

Explaining the reasons for his trip Mr White said: "Now I have the company properly restructured and financed, I have to bring our existing distributors and approved applicators up to date with our new products and sell the use of these products to a wider client base in the Far East. I want to build on the success and enthusiasm of our existing fashion users for our reflective inks and to introduce new products as we develop them".

Reflec plc has three divisions. The process division specialises in cryogenic grinding for industry and for its own reflective inks and anticorrosion coatings. The reflective division is the only producer of reflective inks in Europe and currently exports to Australia, the Far East, Europe and the USA, where they are largely used by the textile and fashion trade. The coatings division produces Kelvar anticorrosion coatings, which are used in the protection of metal components in aggressive environments.
