10,000 tonnes contract

Keywords Wedge Group Galvanizing, Steel, Galvanizing

A contract for hot dip galvanizing 10,000 tonnes of structural steel to be used in heavy industry in Nigeria, has been won by Wedge Group Galvanizing Ltd.

Two of Wedge Group's 16 plants are carrying out the work over a 12-month- period - Pillar Wedge at Heywood (Lancs) and Worksop Galvanizing (Notts).

This project involves galvanizing thousands of individual beams, pipework and mixed pieces, of varying lengths, that will be used in modular buildings and other structures being erected on a massive site linked with the Nigerian petro-chemical and offshore gas industry.

The customer is William Hare Ltd, steel fabricators, of Bolton (Lancs). Long lengths are being processed at Worksop, where a new 21-metre facility is available (believed to be the longest in Europe). It is now possible for customers to have work of up to 20.75 metres long galvanized in one single hot dip immersion.

Wedge is using a specially devised coding system that will aid the customer and helps simplify identification, dispatch and shipping procedures.
