Parkes Galvanizing reports that it has landed a contract to hot dip galvanize 34 tonnes of universal beams for the Channel Tunnel high rail speed link.

The steel beams, ranging in length from 7.6 metres to 9 metres, are being fitted into the ground at the site near Folkestone and then the gaps between them are being filled, providing noise reduction for the area.

The contract was awarded to Parkes Galvanizing by George Chambers, director of G.C. Fencing and Fabrications, in Keymer, West Sussex, who have been carrying out the work for Gramm Barrier Systems, of Seaford, East Sussex. Hot dip galvanizing will give the structures a long corrosion and maintenance free life. Commercial representative for Parkes, Roy James, said, "It's always good to be linked to a high profile project such as the Channel Tunnel, so we were delighted to win the contract.

"This will be of benefit to all involved, and demonstrates our ability as a company to deliver quality products that enable problem-solving solutions to be carried out efficiently."

Parkes is also committed to investment for the future with plans for two 3.2-tonne cranes at a cost of £30k to be installed at the plant, at Riverside Works, Marshgate Lane, thus giving the firm even greater confidence to gain new contracts.
