Fire extinguisher market drive

Keywords Plascoat, Coatings, Thermoplastics

A Baltic company notable for its production of holding and petrol tanks is now gearing up to make a major impact in the European fire extinguisher market.

The Latvian-based operation, which has international backing, has made significant investment in special application equipment and coating materials from European thermoplastic coatings company Plascoat and is likely to produce more than 20,000 cylinders in its first year.

Plascoat reports similar interest from other emerging countries, such as India, Pakistan and China, for its packaged technology solution to fire extinguisher linings.

The Falcon 24 double-headed spin coating system purchased by the Latvians is part of a Falcon series developed by Plascoat with the support of engineering specialists Gravatom to meet the needs of small to large volume extinguisher producers.

The semi-automated Falcon 24, which is said to be able to line extinguisher cylinders at a rate of up to 24 units an hour with one-man operation, is being used by the Baltic company to apply Plascoat's application-specific, corrosion-resistant linning material PPA665.
