Construction of the new Rockingham Speedway at Corby, Northants, UK, has recently been completed by Morrisons Construction Ltd. It includes a Nascar track to international standards and provision for a motor cycle speedway. It will be used for all types of motor sport and the first big event was an Indicar race which took place in September.

Morrisons Construction has used Winn & Coales' Densoband on the new spectator terraces to form a flexible watertight joint between balustrading steelwork and the concrete terraces. This was recommended by one of Morrisons' engineers as a result of previous experience. Approximately 1,000 metres of Densoband has been installed by sub-contractors Cambridge Asphalt Company Ltd. Densoband forms a flexible watertight joint between concrete and steelwork, as well as between hot rolled asphalt and asphalt. It is approved by the Highways Agency and the British Airport Authority. Because water, salts, pollutants, weed seeds, etc. cannot penetrate the sealed joint, it remains unaffected by extremes of temperature and further deterioration.

The prudent use of Densoband as a joint sealant is said to greatly reduce maintenance costs and expensive and unpopular repairs making it, according to Winn & Coales, a cost effective alternative to traditional jointing materials.
