BAC appoints two easybond pin brazing importers for USA

Keywords: Brazing, BAC Corrosion Control, USA

As part of its expansion into the United States, BAC Corrosion Control, Telford, UK, has appointed two importers for its easybond pin brazing equipment. The two companies will set up distributorships with other cathodic protection companies within their areas to broaden the awareness of the products throughout North America.

Galvotec Alloys Inc. of Harvey, LA, will handle the easybond range of equipment and consumables in the central and east United States area including Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, whilst GMC Corrosion and Electrical of Ontario, CA, will be responsible for the Western states and US territories of the Pacific Basin. Some central western states will be jointly serviced as both importers already have distributors in these areas. Both well established companies are recognized in the cathodic protection sector and the availability of state-of-the-art pin brazing equipment through them further extends their product portfolios.

BAC Corrosion Control introduced its easybond fully portable pin brazing system that produces electrical bonds for connections in pipeline cathodic protection systems in the 1980s. The process is safe, quick and reliable and permits a large number of connections to be made in a relatively short time. There is now even a unit for making sound retrofit connections for sacrificial anode attachment on buried pipelines without resort to a trench to gain access. All that is required is a core-drilled hole to permit access for the Reach System brazing tool extension, adjustable up to 4 m.

In the pin brazing process, threaded pins to accept a crimped cable lug and a nut are used for ductile or cast iron pipes. For steel pipes, either threaded brazing pins with nuts or a special lug for direct cable brazing is the norm. The portable nature of the equipment means that connections can be made in any weather in almost any location, either above or below ground and, if necessary, overhead.
