Baan signs up 44 new customers in fourth quarter of 2002

Baan, the leading enterprise application provider for industrial enterprises and part of Invensys plc., finished 2002 with a sales that reinforced a corporate strategy focused on industrial enterprises with complex make, move, and service needs. Baan won business at 44 new customers during the quarter bringing the total number of new customers acquired to 159 in 2002.

For the quarter ending 31 December, Baan signed agreements with 24 new customers in the European region, 14 in the Americas, and six in the Asia-Pacific region.

"Our ability to win business at new accounts during difficult economic times demonstrates the confidence customers have in our solutions, our sales force, and our sales alliance firms," said Laurens van der Tang, President of Baan. "We have established Baan as a customer-driven company positioned for growth. We will continue to listen closely to our customers' needs and then respond with targeted solutions that can contribute to their profitability."

Among the major new North American customers who signed on with Baan during the quarter are American IronHorse Motorcycle Company, Dexter Axle, and TransCor America. The major Latin American new customers that bought from Baan during the quarter were: Café Soluble, Moderna Alimentos S.A., Cineral Electronica de Amazonia, and Suspensys-Grupo Randon.

In the European region, the major new customers during the quarter were: Swisslog AG, Prolens AG, Pro Assist, BaltiES, Olerex AS, Potisje Kanjisza, Metalac, Perles d.o.o., Rotomatika d.d., Rog d.d., Emirates Techno Casting LLC, Normbau GmbH, Sieger, and Tracto-Technik.

Asia-Pacific companies signing on with Baan for the first time in the quarter included: Tata Tinplate, Vijay Electricals, JCBL Limited, and Uniproducts.

American IronHorse, a manufacturer of high-performance, customized motorcycles plans to implement the iBaan suite at its Fort Worth headquarters to help simplify manufacturing, distribution, and finance processes. This can help the company to improve productivity and substantially reduce costs in the areas of inventory, manufacturing, and order fulfillment.

"We are a fast growing company, and improving our current business processes is key to supporting future growth," said Bob Kay, Chief Operating Officer for American IronHorse. "The integration capabilities offered by iBaan can help us streamline and coordinate our supply chain of dealers with our manufacturing operations and the iBaan solution can make it easier to plan for the future and respond more flexibly to changing market conditions." The American IronHorse solution is being implemented by TriNET, Inc. – a Baan sales alliance firm.

In addition to winning business at new customers, Baan signed significant new deals with existing customers during the quarter. In the Americas, these included WalMart, Safelite, Dictaphone, and Grupo Bioquimico Mexicano.

Among the major wins at existing customers in Europe were: Liebherr, and MLPC International. Wins at existing Asia-Pacific customers included Futon Technology, Hitachi Cables, Jianghuai Automotive Chassis, JCBL Limited, Uniproducts, Japan Servo, PT Federal Izumi, PT Federal Superior Chain, United Detergent Industries, and PT Benangsari.

At Inalfa, a global automotive industry supplier headquartered in The Netherlands, Baan prevailed over major industry competitors, demonstrating that Baan's expertise in collaborative manufacturing was considered the most strategically beneficial solution.

A major win in Asia was at Futon Technology which purchased licenses for iBaan Enterprise 5.0 and iBaan for customer relationship management. Futon Technology markets and distributes computer and networking products.

The iBaan suite of internet-enabled solutions combines proven Baan technology with new developments that enable customers to take significant steps towards seamlessly integrating systems and processes. The solutions provide end-users with personalized and easy-to-use information, and empower businesses to collaborate with their customers and suppliers over the internet.
